2018 Registration Is Open!
by posted 01/01/2018

Okay, okay, fine -- it was negative-whatever at midnight in Marblehead as 2018 began. But the arrival of January 1 means that spring -- and BASEBALL SEASON! -- is just that much closer. And today we are happy to announce that registration is open for our 2018 programs by clicking the "Register Now" button on the home page, or by clicking here.
The following programs are open now for registration:
  • 2018 Winter Workouts (baseball ages 7-15 / DOB range 5/1/2002-4/30/2011): Winter Workouts are the perfect way for our players to get their baseball skills back in shape, while renewing (and adding to!) their baseball friendships. Winter Workouts are held in the MHS Gym on four consecutive Sunday evenings, beginning Sunday, February 25, 2018.
  • 2018 Spring Season (baseball ages 7-15 / DOB range 5/1/2001-4/30/2011): The perfect mix of skill development and competitive games, our spring leagues have been a part of youth sports in Marblehead for generations, and are ideal for all.
  • 2018 Introductory Clinic (age 6 by 8/31/2018; DOB range 5/1/2011-8/31/2012). Baseball fundamentals, on the same fields the "big kids" play on, with games, too -- it's a great way to begin playing "real" baseball!
  • 2018 Umpire registration: Our AA and AAA leagues use youth umpires ages 11 and up -- it's a rewarding way to be involved!
  • 2018 Coach registration: Our teams need coaches, and we'd love to have you help! Register to coach, and help shape the future of baseball in Marblehead!

USABat Standard for 2018
by posted 08/17/2017

As mandated by Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken, in conjunction with Little League, AAU, and many other youth baseball organizations, Marblehead Youth Baseball will be adopting the USABat standard effective January 1, 2018 for all bats used in the 2018 season.

The purpose of the USABat standard is to standardize on a more wood-like performance, while still retaining the durability and swingability (especially for our younger players) of lighter-weight materials. It is important to note that the new USABat bats for our Cal Ripken-aged players (7-12) will now feature a bigger 2 5/8" barrel.

ONLY bats marked with the USABat logo will be approved for use in MYB in 2018. (Players aged 13-15 -- our Raimo and Babe Ruth leagues -- may also still use bats marked with the BBCOR  .50 specification.)

For more information behind and regarding this change, see the following links:

Bat Rules (has chart with 2018 rules): (25 minute discussion panel video from this year's All-Star Game)

As you will learn from these links, it is the intention of bat manufacturers to have USABat-marked bats available for purchase after September 1, 2017. It is also MYB's plan to ensure that each team in 2018 has at least one team-issued bat that meets the USABat standard.
